Sudangirl21- Hi, my name is a Abimbola I am an 11 year old girl that lives is South Sudan in Abri it is a significant town on the stretch between Wadi Hald and Dongola ,Abri market day is Monday that is the day that my family and I all go to the market place and get the goods that we need for a reasonable amount of money. I come from a family of 5, I live with my mom, dad, brother Abioye (10), older sister Adebowale(16), and myself. At home we all have to chip in to help out with the family, for example the dinner is made by my mom and brother the clothes which is only 5 things because each of us only have one thing and cleaning the house with a stick and a we make stuff out of leaves and some scrapes that the market gives to my dad, my sister and I do that and thought the day and my dad goes out and makes money for the family. My dad works at the market place on Tuesday through Friday because his boss said that he should not work on Monday because he needs to help take care of the family and help my mom out with the house work, My dad makes about 15 to 20 dollars a month because he does not work on Monday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sudangirl21- While my dad is at work which is about mid-day we will start our chores and or eat lunch. Most of the time we don’t get to have lunch because we need to save some for dinner or we don’t have dinner because we ate it all of it the day before we ate it for dinner or lunch and cant afroed to buy more lunch/dinner.

Sudangirl21- In the afternoon we all start to get our beds of sticks ready while mom is cooking dinner and dad is coming home from a 5h day of work.

Sudangirl21- For dinner we don’t have the same thing everyday but sometimes we do because we have the same thing because we cant buy the food that we need with only 2 dollars so we ask my grandma for some money or we try and wait for the end of the month.

Sudangirl21- Now it is time to eat, my siblings and I help set the table with the things that we call plates but are really pieces of bark.

Sudangirl21- By the time we go to bed it is about 9:45 but we are all tired from a long day of work.

  1. Hi Abimbola! My name is Nymal. I loved reading about your story. You seem like a very nice girl. I go to your city sometimes when mine is mourning the loss of a loved one. They don't go out when they're mourning. So anyway, if you see me, speak up! I'd love to meet you!
